Shailey Gupta-Brietzke is an associate attorney with Slate & Associates,
Attorneys at Law. Shailey was admitted to the Texas State Bar in 2007.
She has exclusively practiced family law since licensure, and -became
board-certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Family Law
in 2014. Shailey's experience, board certification, and extensive
family law knowledge base make her an asset to her clients.
Shailey was raised in Missouri City, Texas. She earned her Bachelors of
Arts in Political Science from Texas A&M University. She moved back
to Houston to attend South Texas College of Law. While in law school,
"Dealing with Judicial Misconduct in the States: Walking the Fine
Line Between Independence and Accountability. 48 S. Tex. L. Rev. 849 (2007).
Upon graduation, Shailey was awarded a Ford Foundation fellowship to provide
pro bono legal representation to survivors and victims of domestic violence
at Aid to Victims of Domestic Violence. Through her tenue at Aid to Victims
of Domestic Abuse, Shailey provided pro bono legal representation to over
300 victims. Shailey handled protective orders, divorces, suits affecting
the parent-child relationship, name changes, and other family law matters
in all stages of litigation in Harris County and Galveston County. She
went on to present at the Houston Bar Association New Pro Bono Practitioner
CLE in 2010, on how volunteer lawyers could handle domestic violence family
law cases in Harris County. Shailey also spoke and presented at the Texas
Council on Family Violence Annual Meeting in 2010 on protective orders
and at the 2009 Texas Legislative session. In September 2011, Shailey
was recognized as the "Tyrant's Foe" by the Texas Observer
for her pro bono representation of domestic violence survivors.
In 2012, Shailey moved to the Harris County Domestic Relations Office as
a Legal Enforcement Attorney. Here, she handled the child support enforcement
dockets in the 309th and 246th Judicial District Courts. Shailey became well versed in handling all matters
related to child support, legal enforcement, and administrative remedies
for enforcement. Shailey also joined the Burta Rhoads Raborn Family Law
Inn of Court to further her professional development and continuing legal
education. In 2014, Shailey became board certified by the Texas Board
of Legal Specialization in Family Law. Shailey joined the Gulf Coast Family
Law Specialists in 2015. In 2015, Shailey also presented at the Texas
Association of Domestic Relations Offices Annual Conference.
In her spare time, Shailey enjoys cycling, trying new Houston restaurants,
and traveling with her husband, Evan.
